When people ask me what I do and I tell them I'm a Life Coach many reply with, “oh gosh, that’s nice” before pausing, looking me in the eye quizzically, and then adding ‘what is a Life Coach exactly?!”
Life Coaching works on areas of your life that you feel you would like to change. It is a results-based practice, which means we work to make your goals a reality. At the core it’s about you getting the results you want through us working together.
I should say that Coaching is not counseling and should not be considered so; I am not a psychologist! Whilst counseling is often about the past, i.e. something you cannot necessarily change, Life Coaching focuses on the future, about achieving your goals, about getting stuff done.
You can be coached on whatever you feel is most important to you, and whatever you want to achieve. For e.g.
It is completely up to you and no goal is too big or too small for Life Coaching, that’s why it works.
Your Coaching sessions can take place over Skype, by telephone or face-to-face, whichever suits you best, your lifestyle, and the time you can give to the sessions. Initially we do some groundwork that looks at many areas of your life, things you’d expect to be asked to consider:
We do this to achieve an over view of how balanced your life is, however, as you can imagine – more often than not, there is a lack of balance. Don’t worry you’re not alone here; we’ll have you on track in no time. From here, we look at what your goals are and set about achieving them by setting up manageable, small, workable tasks.
In essence, coaching really is a partnership (I'm not going to do it for you); I will coach you to achieve your goals through empowerment, support, motivation and – crucially – encouragement. I’ll also challenge you on how you consider and approach your own goals.
Too often it’s that little voice inside our heads that’s saying ‘I can’t do that’, ‘I haven’t got the time’. Our sessions and work will shift that, enabling you to achieve your goals – in a way that works for you.
As Henry Ford, of car founder fame, said: ‘"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." He also said ‘A turtle makes progress when it sticks its neck out’. I’m here to help you stick your head out; together - we’ll both get you out of your shell
